MOPS – Mothers of Preschoolers (from birth through Kindergarten) is dedicated to meeting the needs of every mother of preschoolers. MOPS strives to attain this vision through the local MOPS group. A MOPS group is started through a local church, and often has a leadership team made up of 8 key positions, although many groups start with only 2 or 3 leaders. Most MOPS groups vary in size from 10 to 200 women. MOPS groups usually meet once or twice a month, and often provide childcare through the MOPPETS program. A new MOPS group is right now taking form at First Baptist Church in Terrell.
Carolyn Gift, one of the organizer said “It’s a great organization for moms to just sit down relax read God’s word and just fill themselves up. Because being a mom is hard but rewarding work, so many mom’s in this town feel isolated…child care is provided.”
A garage sale fundraiser will be held later in September to both raise money for the organization as well as awareness. The date has not been set yet but there will be flyers and information about it coming out.
